From the Parish Priest – Fr. Romey Rosco
Why is it necessary to listen to the Church and not to those who would contradict or deny the Church’s place in our lives? Because the Church was founded by the Lord Jesus Christ and is guided by the Spirit of God; because it represents on earth the realm of the holy, and if someone rises up against the realm of the holy, it means that he is unholy. Why, then, listen to him and not the Church?
St. John Chrysostom says, “The Church is an enclosure. If you are within, the wolf does not enter; but if you leave, he will seize you.” So, do not distance yourself from the Church. There is nothing mightier than the Church, just as there is nothing mightier than the Word and Power of God. The Church is your hope. The Church is your salvation. The Church is higher than the heavens, harder than stone and wider than the world. The Church never grows old, but always renews itself. (Taken from the Holy Fathers)
The “last summer holiday” is soon upon us, and your church has weathered the hot summer months. Attandance has not been bad, but too many of us have the idea that we don’t need the Church when the sun shines. Now, we worry: “Who will come back to church? How have we been influenced during our time away from Church? The Church’s great concern is not for numbers and dollars, but for souls. Never forget that your Holy Orthodox Church cares about you, because Christ cares about you with the mind and heart of God!
