On Euthanasia

From the Parish PriestFr. Romey Rosco

Whether we are talking about the case of Terri Schiavo, about abortion, euthanasia in general, or capital punishment, life belongs to God and we have no right to take it away.  When man decides over matters of “life or death,” it will always become a slippery slope: the boundaries set by man will continually change and liberties will be taken away from those who need them most.

Mrs. Schiavo is not brain-dead; she is brain-damaged.  She is not on a respirator; she is breathing on her own.  She doesn’t need anyone to judge her existence, but to help her survive.  Euthanasia is a dangerous solution to problems of life – the wrong solution.  How could we say with the psalmist “The Lord giveth; the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord!” when too many of us would condone ending human life created in God’s holy image.

Euthanasia by the “euphoric” method of starvation…. abortion by ancient methods of potions or today’s physically brutal assault upon the fetus…. or capital punishment by lethal injection or the electric chair…. THERE IS NO RIGHT WAY TO DO A WRONG THING!
