On Sanctity of Life Sunday

From the Parish PriestFr. Romey Rosco

Thirty years ago, on January 22, 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court legalized abortions in this country and even gave Government sanction to fund them.  This has led to the death of more than forty million (40,000,000) unborn babies in the past 30 years.

In distress at the thought of such mass murder, the late Mother Teresa once said, “Abortion is the greatest destroyer of peace.  If a mother can kill a child in her womb, what is left for us but to kill one another?”

Any kind of abortion (partial-birth or otherwise) is heinous and barbaric.  And any Orthodox Christian who can bring a child into being and then kill it, has much to repent of.  As wrong as it is to have illegitimate children, it is better to have an innocent child illegitimately conceived by guilty and (hopefully) repentant parents, than a dead baby.

The Lord said, “Before I formed you in the belly I knew you; and before you came forth out of the womb I sanctified you.” (Jeremiah 1:5)

God is the Source of Life, and we must recognize that the life He gives us is holy and precious.  Never reject what God has sanctified.
